A major industrial manufacturer in the New England area had a particularly
unique requirement and contacted Power Wheel USA for assistance.
They manufacture an electrical product used in construction and renovation
work and this product is typically packaged in 12' lengths. Once boxed, it
is loaded on a transport cart for movement to the shipping department
which is quite some distance away.
For years, employees have hand pushed these carts, some weighing upward to
2,500 pounds when fully loaded.
They requested help from Power Wheel USA to find a way to incorporate our
Powrhitch Model 2 with on-board battery power so it could provide powered
transport for these heavy carts.
This assignment posed several challenges, the least of which was the
number of carts in the plant that are used on a daily basis. The
manufacturer did not want to bear the expense of making costly
modifications to their fleet of carts. Stated otherwise, we had to find a
way to interface to their transport cart as is.
This task was further complicated by the fact that the manufactured
product is 12' long and the cart is 6' long. So there was an overhang of
3' on either end with which to contend.
Power Wheel USA studied the problem and came up with the solution to
answer the challenge.
The photograph on the left shows an unloaded cart and
the tongue and pintel where we needed to make the connection. The middle
photograph shows the special interface built in our shop in order to
provide the necessary reach to make the connection. The photograph on the
right shows the extreme overhang of the product when loaded on the
transport cart.
Power Wheel designed and manufactured an extended interface and then took our
equipment to the factory and demonstrated the ease with which their
product could be easily and safely moved using fingertip control.
At Power Wheel USA, we take pride in thinking outside of the box and
working with industry to develop efficient and cost effective solutions

Keep The Production Line Running
Many of you have either been to London or seen the black taxi cabs in
movies that
have been a hallmark of the United Kingdom since before World War 2.
Powrwheel, Ltd of the UK (our equipment provider) was approached by The
London Cab Company who manufactures the black English taxis. They were
faced with installing a million dollar moving assembly line to handle the
movement of taxi cab chassis through the factory. All chassis are carried
on a dolly frame from each stage of production. Powrwheel, Ltd was asked
if they could come up with a solution.
Using a welded post, instead of the removable post as in the first
example, and using the Powrhitch Model 2 with on board battery, a similar
scoop coupling and lifting lug was manufactured. The lifting lug was
welded to the wheeled dolly frame and the Powrhitch is now used to move
taxi chassis from station to station in the manufacturing process.
Special foam filled tires were substituted for pneumatic tires so shards
of metal that lay around on the floor will not puncture the tires.
The Powrhitch 2 became a very cost effective solution for The London Cab
Company.

Our sister company in the UK was approached by a children's rehabilitation
hospital with a unique request. They have one kitchen where patient meals
are prepared. However, many patients are in a separate building that is
some distance across a parking lot and courtyard from the main hospital.
For years, three times a day, hospital personnel have manually pushed heavy
meal carts weighing close to 300 pounds between the buildings in order to
serve meals to the patients. It is a physically demanding task and they
came to Powrwheel, Ltd. with yet another challenging opportunity.
This time, using the smaller Powrhitch 1 mounted with on board battery,
Powrwheel, Ltd. met the challenge and now each day, this burdensome task
is being readily handled with ease.
